Golf and the inland communities

Last updated:

Golf is part of Mijas’s identity: the town hall counted 12 golf courses in the municipality in May 2026. This area groups the inland districts around Mijas Golf and La Cala Resort, with five courses between them, and the residential communities of Hipódromo-Cerrado del Águila, with green views and the coast a short drive away.

In idealista’s districts it covers Mijas Golf, La Cala Golf - Lagar Martell and Hipódromo-Cerrado del Águila.

The golf

Mijas Golf has two 18-hole courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos (Mijas Golf (opens in a new tab)), and La Cala Resort three championship courses, America, Asia and Europa (La Cala Resort (opens in a new tab)). Cerrado del Águila adds a nine-hole course (Cerrado del Águila (opens in a new tab)), and nearby in the Mijas countryside Santana Golf has an 18-hole, par-72 course (Santana Golf (opens in a new tab)).

August 2026 asking-price data from idealista (Mijas (opens in a new tab) and its district pages). Annual changes describe its advertised-price index, not the change in value of an individual home. The floor areas are budget comparisons before purchase costs and taxes.

All three golf districts asked less than the municipal figure in August 2026; Mijas Golf, at €3,094 per m², was the second-lowest of the eleven districts.

New builds

On 6 October 2026, idealista’s Spanish-language search displayed 13 new-development advertisements in La Cala Golf - Lagar Martell and 8 in Hipódromo-Cerrado del Águila (idealista (opens in a new tab)); these are advertising counts, not distinct projects or homes. As an example, Grupo Insur advertised two-bedroom homes at Balance Nova, in the Hipódromo area, from €320,000 plus VAT, with parking and storage included (Grupo Insur (opens in a new tab), 6 October 2026). Before paying anything off-plan, have your own lawyer check the building licence, the designated account and the guarantee or insurance issued in your name.

Living there all year

Getting around. The golf communities are spread across the inland valleys; check each address’s access to the coast, shops, schools and the A-7. The M-223 serves the Mijas Golf area, including an on-request stop named Mijas Golf, and the M-156 stops at Cerrado del Águila Golf (Consorcio de Transportes Metropolitano del Área de Málaga (opens in a new tab)). La Cala Resort is about 7 km and 10 minutes by road from La Cala de Mijas (Rome2Rio, 6 October 2026).

Health care. Public healthcare options include the health centres in Las Lagunas and La Cala de Mijas, and specialist outpatient care at CARE Mijas.

Schools. St Anthony’s College, which offers British education for ages 3 to 18, is on the Camino de Coín at km 5.25, in the inland area around Mijas Golf and La Cala Hills (the school (opens in a new tab)). See Schools and family.

If you plan to let the property

Since 3 April 2025, a new holiday let covered by Spain’s Horizontal Property Law generally requires prior express approval from the owners’ association. Have an independent adviser check the property’s planning compatibility, tourism requirements, community rules and any applicable transitional provisions before relying on rental income. For a rural property, also confirm which accommodation regime applies.

Who the golf and inland communities suit

The golf communities suit buyers who want golf on their doorstep, a home with green views in a residential community, and asking prices below the municipal average, with the coast a short drive away.

For everyday errands on foot, consider central Las Lagunas or Mijas Pueblo, checking the individual address. For a home close to the beach, explore La Cala and the coast.
