Schools and family

Last updated:

St Anthony’s College, on the Camino de Coín in Mijas Costa, provides British education for pupils aged 3 to 18, with IGCSE and A-level pathways alongside the Spanish ESO and Bachillerato (the school (opens in a new tab)). Contact the school for its 2026/27 fee schedule and a breakdown of additional charges.

The Nordic schools are next door. Svenska Skolan Costa del Sol (Avenida Acapulco 11) and the Finnish school, Aurinkorannikon suomalainen koulu (Calle José Salik 4), are in Fuengirola, and the Norwegian school, Den Norske Skolen i Málaga, is in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena (Svenska Skolan (opens in a new tab); Suomalainen koulu (opens in a new tab); Den Norske Skolen (opens in a new tab)).

State schools. Mijas has state schools across its main residential areas. In 2023/24, IECA recorded 15 centres offering primary education and ten offering compulsory secondary education, counting different types of school (IECA (opens in a new tab)). Ten public schools run English bilingual programmes (Junta de Andalucía, 2024/25): Tamixa, El Olmo, Nuestra Señora Virgen de la Peña, María Zambrano and El Chaparral at primary level, and Torre Almenara, Vega de Mijas, Sierra de Mijas, Las Lagunas and La Cala de Mijas at secondary level (Junta de Andalucía (opens in a new tab)). They follow the Spanish system, with selected subjects taught partly in English. For the 2026/27 school year, the town hall reported €900,000 of summer maintenance and repairs across local school buildings (Ayuntamiento de Mijas (opens in a new tab), September 2026).

Along the coast. Benalmádena is also home to The British College, with IGCSE, AS and A levels (the school (opens in a new tab)), and in Marbella the English International College offers a British pathway through IGCSE and A levels (the school (opens in a new tab)).

Family life. In Las Lagunas, the 27-hectare Gran Parque has a children’s splash park that opened in June 2026 with 41 interactive features (Ayuntamiento de Mijas (opens in a new tab)). Mijas’s municipal sports programme includes athletics, basketball, football, gymnastics, martial arts, tennis, volleyball and swimming; the council’s March 2026 tariff lists most junior sports schools at €22 a month, or €11 with an annual membership of €21 (Ayuntamiento de Mijas (opens in a new tab)), and it reported more than 6,000 users of its sports services in October 2026.
